What is Skill Set Occupational Therapy?
At Skill Set Occupational Therapy your child’s needs are our main priority! We work from a strengths-based approach to help build the confidence of our young clients and provide them with the tools needed to tackle all of life’s challenges. During our sessions, our team utilises play-based guidance as we believe that children learn best when they are engaged and having fun.
Our Services
While it is not compulsory, we strongly recommend completing an initial assessment to help determine your child’s needs and goals for therapy before beginning therapy sessions. This assessment generally takes around 90 minutes and includes a written summary report containing results and important information to guide you in your OT journey. Comprehensive reports can also be provided upon request that you can distribute to the other important stakeholders in your child’s life including, teachers, Paediatricians and other allied health professionals.
These sessions involve tailored activities designed to assist your little one in areas of difficulty including but not limited to: fine motor skills, gross motor skills, visual perception, handwriting, literacy, sensory processing and behaviour. By utilising therapeutic play, our team seeks to maximise engagement while providing opportunities for growth and development.
We understand that sometimes it can be difficult to travel to an appointment. We also understand that children have different needs and exhibit different behaviours depending on their environment. As such we are able to provide therapy where you need it the most whether this be at home or at school (if your child’s school is amenable to external therapists).

With the ongoing spread of Covid-19, many health services have moved to provide online services for clients who feel uncomfortable travelling due to health concerns. We here at Skill Set are happy to accommodate should you wish to participate in therapies online. Simply inform our administrative staff when making an appointment and we will make every effort to oblige.
Please note that online therapy may require teleconferencing software such as Zoom. If assistance is required in setting this up, please inform our staff in advance so that we may help you.
While our fantastic staff will endeavor to provide your child with any assistance they require, there are times when supplemental therapies may be beneficial. Should we feel your child would benefit from additional external services our staff can provide recommendations if requested. Thanks to our time in the health industry, we have built up a network of connections with Brisbane’s leading Speech Therapists, Psychologists and other specialist healthcare providers.
We will not attempt to continue therapy with a child whose needs fall outside our areas of expertise. This would be an unnecessary strain on your funding which may see greater benefit elsewhere.
